Each year, the Wellesley Education Foundation offers a number of programs to raise money for our schools, to inspire the love of learning by our students, and to honor our educators who are working hard to deliver a world-class education to all Wellesley Public School Students. Learn about our programs below.
Red Apple Program: Honor a Teacher
The Red Apple Program is a meaningful way for parents and students to show their appreciation to a teacher or staff member by making a gift to the Wellesley Education Foundation in his or her name. Honoree(s) receive a Red Apple thank you e-card that includes your child’s name. When you give a Red Apple gift, you are paying tribute to your child’s teacher(s) while simultaneously supporting innovation and excellence in the Wellesley Public Schools.
Wellesley Spelling Bee
The Wellesley Spelling Bee is a Wellesley tradition that brings our community together to celebrate education. It's a unique opportunity every year to see members of the community across all generations participate at the same event with the same level of excitement. Although it is a major fundraiser for public education in our town, equally important to WEF is the event's role in building a sense of community in Wellesley.
WEF Holiday Challenge
Through this challenge, members of the board of directors have aggregately pledged to match every donation made to the Wellesley Education Foundation in the month of December – up to a set amount. Each gift will be doubled through this drive. This program is a fun challenge for the community that demonstrates the board's pooled dedication to champion innovation and excellence in our schools.
Wellesley STEM Expo
The Wellesley STEM Expo is a hands-on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) exposition that includes a speaker series, hands-on exhibits, workshops, and a student work showcase – transforming Wellesley High School into an interactive science center for a day. In addition to the Expo itself, there are a series of events leading up to the big day, and several exciting events afterwards.
Chair Ceremony: Professional Staff Recognition
Each Spring, WEF, Wellesley College and the Wellesley School Committee come together to honor staff members who have contributed 25 years of their professional career to the Wellesley Public Schools. In appreciation for their years of service, the honorees receive a captain's chair embossed with the Town of Wellesley seal. Commonly known as The Chair Ceremony, friends and colleagues toast (and roast) the honorees with skits, poems and personal speeches.
