Our Programs

Each year, the Wellesley Education Foundation offers a number of programs to raise money for our schools, to inspire the love of learning by our students, and to honor our educators who are working hard to deliver a world-class education to all Wellesley Public School Students. Learn about our programs below.

Red Apple Program: Honor a Teacher

Year Round

The Red Apple Program is a meaningful way for parents and students to show their appreciation for a teacher or staff member by making a gift to the Wellesley Education Foundation in his or her name. It's a wonderful opportunity to recognize the hard work and dedication of the educators and staff members of our school district. With a single donation, parents can honor up to ten Wellesley teachers and staff.

Wellesley Spelling Bee

November

The Wellesley Spelling Bee is a Wellesley tradition that brings our community together to celebrate education. It's a unique opportunity every year to see members of the community across all generations participate at the same event with the same level of excitement. Although it is a major fundraiser for public education in our town, equally important to WEF is the event's role in building a sense of community in Wellesley.

Throughout the year WEF hosts an annual Parent Lecture Series, which features authors and experts who discuss topics relevant to parenting and education. These events are designed to spark conversation, share strategies, and support parents in raising healthy, resilient children.

Educator Grants

Winter

For over 40 years, WEF has underwritten grants to educators that further innovation and excellence in our schools. With the loyal support of our donors and volunteers, over $2.8 million has been awarded in the last 10 years to sponsor programs and initiatives that inspire the love of learning in the Wellesley Public Schools.

Chair Ceremony: Professional Staff Recognition

Spring

captains chair_edited_edited.jpg
Each Spring, WEF, Wellesley College and the Wellesley School Committee come together to honor staff members who have contributed 25 years of their professional career to the Wellesley Public Schools. In appreciation for their years of service, the honorees receive a captain's chair embossed with the Town of Wellesley seal. Commonly known as The Chair Ceremony, friends and colleagues toast (and roast) the honorees with skits, poems and personal speeches. Each year, the Chair Ceremony serves as a wonderful celebration of the dedication of long-term Wellesley Public School employees.
