WEF ANNOUNCES Grant Awards For Spring 2017 Cycle

Nearly $110,000 Awarded In The Spring 2017 Grant Cycle

The Wellesley Education Foundation (WEF) proudly announces that it has awarded nearly $110,000 for grants and assistance to WPS educators district-wide in May 2017. A total of 19 grants were funded. The grants selected for funding range from $320 to $40,000, and represent a wide variety of key components that allow the Wellesley Public Schools to deliver our rich curriculum. The allocation of funds by school level shows WEF's impact reaching all students in the District, from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade:

WEF Allocates Over $242,000 in the 2016-2017 School Year

A YEAR IN REVIEW: In 2016-2017, Over $234,000 in grants was awarded to support professional development, equipment, and 4 priority areas for the District this year:

  • Social Emotional Learning-- Sponsoring the Catherine Steiner-Adair (Mar 2017) and Denise Pope (Jan 2017) Community Speaker Series

  • Cultural Competence -- Underwriting the district-wide Racial Climate Assessment (beginning Sept 2017), and METCO 50th Anniversary celebration by reading at the Wellesley Middle School (an all-school community book read by 2 authors of color)

  • 21st Century Learning-- Funding professional development with the Buck Institute For Education (educator training for implementing multidisciplinary Project Based Learning units for K to 5th grade)

  • Tiered Support For Students -- Purchasing alternative and flexible seating (in the elementary level) and standing desks (in the middle and high schools)
